The Dwarf Grill (1946)
The story starts when Truett Cathy and his brother, Ben, opened a 24-hour diner called the Dwarf Grill in Hapeville, Georgia, in 1946. The restaurant, later renamed the Dwarf House, served employees from a nearby Ford plant and was the birthplace of the future Chick-fil-A menu.
Invention of the chicken sandwich (1964)
Over nearly two decades, Cathy experimented with different chicken recipes. A food vendor offered him a surplus of boneless chicken breasts, which were not suitable for airline meal trays. Using a pressure fryer that cooked the chicken in the same amount of time as a fast-food hamburger, Cathy perfected his recipe: a boneless chicken breast on a toasted buttered bun with two pickles. This sandwich proved to be a major hit with customers.
First Chick-fil-A restaurant (1967)
